The Heritage Council is a non-commercial statutory State Agency whose role is to propose policies for the identification, protection, preservation and enhancement of Ireland’s national heritage. They work in partnership with local communities, local authorities, voluntary groups, government departments and national cultural institutions to support projects that will have a positive and enduring social and economic impact. The Heritage Council is a policy advisory body and a grant awarding body for heritage across Ireland. They are based in Kilkenny in Áras na hOidhreachta, the former home of the Church of Ireland Bishop of Ossory. There are thirty staff based in the Kilkenny headquarters.
